Telling the Terania Story in The Surveyor
It’s not every day a new business finds itself on the cover of the industry’s premier publication. So when The Surveyor magazine featured Terania Consulting in its recent issue, we’ll admit - we were a little bit chuffed.
Being included in The Surveyor, published by Surveyors Australia, was more than a flattering moment. It gave us the opportunity to take a step back and reflect on the journey we’ve been on, the values we’re building from, and the vision that’s driving us forward.
The story followed the early days of Terania, how it all began with a shared belief that the surveying and engineering industry needed a fresh, people-first approach. Founders Dennis Young and Jeff Pickford, along with Partner Chris Pickford, shared insights on starting the business, growing a team from the ground up, and why doing things with heart and humility is just as important as delivering technically great work.
In many ways, talking with the Surveyor team felt like sitting down with colleagues over coffee. The questions were thoughtful, the tone collaborative, and the final story really captured what we stand for - strong regional roots, a commitment to community, and a belief that innovation and simplicity can go hand in hand.
Since launching, Terania has focused on delivering value that lasts. We’re not interested in making things more complex than they need to be. Whether we’re mentoring students, helping restore flood-damaged infrastructure, or designing with the future in mind, we’re driven by clarity, care, and connection. Seeing that come to life in the pages of The Surveyor was both surreal and rewarding.
The feature also placed Terania in a broader conversation about the profession, one that includes everything from training the next generation to strengthening national standards. It’s exciting to be part of a publication that doesn't just celebrate people and projects, but also moves the industry forward.
Big thanks to Surveyors Australia and the editorial team at The Surveyor for shining a spotlight on our story. We’re grateful for the chance to share what we’re building, and even more grateful to be part of a community that values the same things we do - collaboration, transparency, and purpose.
And yes, we’re definitely keeping a few extra copies of this one around the office.
